Using Surveys to Gather Valuable Customer Data

By Adrian Mullan The more you know about your customers, the better you’ll understand them. And the better you understand them, the better you’ll be able to sell to them. One of the best ways to collect this information is by creating a quick online survey. The data you collect from customer surveys can be invaluable to the operation of your business. Survey results allow you to examine your marketing strategy and ask important questions like: - Are you promoting the fact that you have a huge product range, when what your customers actually want is extended operating hours? - Are you promoting your products as technically superior when what your customers really care about its ease-of-use? - Are you heavily promoting cheap prices when what your customers are more concerned about is customer support? If you take the time to ask, you’ll be surprised at how helpful your customers can be. To begin with, the two key areas you want to explore are Demographics and Psychographics. Demographics identify ‘Who is your customer?’, and Psychographics asks ‘Why does your customer buy?’ When collecting demographic information, you’re trying to find out what the profile of your ideal customer is. When collecting psychographic information you’re trying to determine what motivates your ideal customer to buy. Here is some of the information you’ll want to gather from your customers. Demographic Questions - Are they male or female? - How old are they? - Are they married, single or divorced? - What is their average household income? - Where do they spend the majority of their time online? - What are their interests? Psychographic Questions Of the people who purchased your product or service… - What do they think of your product or service? - Why did they buy your product or service? - What do they like about your product or service? - What do they dislike about your product or service? - How do they think you could improve your product or service? Of the people who didn’t purchase your product or service… - Why didn’t they buy from you? - Do they feel you are overpriced? Underpriced? - How did they say you could improve your offer? - How do they think you could improve your product or service? What’s the Best Time to Collect Customer Information? The best time to collect this valuable customer information is at the time of purchase (or directly after). The other option is to offer some form of an incentive in exchange for filling out the survey. What Sort of Incentive Should I Offer? Remember, you’ll get a much better response to your email surveys if you offer something of value in exchange for their personal information. This can be in the form of a: - Free report - Prize - Discount off their next order - Offer with a high perceived value Adrian Mullan is the founder of WebDummy.com.au a full service web design and internet marketing company, specializing in ecommerce website design and search engine optimization. French Cooking Lesson

By Jo-Ann Gaidosz Mille Feuille of Sauted Chicken Livers with a Brandy & Green Peppercorn sauce Ingredients 1 portion v 3 8 x 8cm spring roll pastry sheets v 120g cleaned & trimmed chicken livers v 1 small tsp green peppercorns (in brine) v 25ml brandy v 200ml double cream v salt & pepper Method 1. Pre-heat deep frying vegetable oil, and deep fry the spring roll pastry one at a time, until golden brown. Set aside to kitchen roll to absorb any excess oil. 2. Pre-heat a non stick frying pan until hot, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil, and panfry the chicken livers until golden brown on either side and pink in the middle (reasonably soft to touch). 3. Remove chicken livers from the frying pan, set aside on a plate. Add the green peppercorns to hot pan, pour in brandy and flame (this removes the bitterness of the alcohol). 4. Add the cream to the frying pan, and reduce until you have a sauce consistency. Gently add the chicken livers back into the frying pan and reheat them in the sauce and season well. 5. To plate up, put one of the sheets of spring roll pastry on a plate, cover with half the chicken livers, put the next sheet of spring roll pastry on top, and gently place the remaining chicken livers on top of that. 6. Carefully spoon the sauce over the chicken livers and around the plate, garnish with a little freshly chopped green herbs then place the last sheet of pastry on the top and serve. It is that easy. Muget Des Bois: A Healing Victory

By Nur Syahid Known by its other name as Lily of the Valley or May Lily, muget des bois is an English plant used commonly as a perfume. Since the discovery of its virtues in aromatherapy, the use of muget des bois for healing has been increasingly widespread. History According to a Sussex legend, St Leonard battled against a great dragon in the woods near Horsham and drove the beast away at the cost of being mortally wounded, but wherever his blood fell, lilies of the valley sprung up to commemorate his valiant struggle. The 16th century herbalist John Gerard, recommended muget des bois for those who had dumb palsie and those who had fallen into apoplexy. Muget des bois is one of the British-grown plants included in the Pharmacopoeia, and its medicinal values have been tested through time. Ecology A native of Europe, muget des bois may also be found throughout the woodlands over North America and Northern Asia. In England, it grows wild in abundance. Muget des bois is a perennial plant that grows to 9 inches high, has a pair of elliptical leaves and clusters of white, bell-shaped flowers with sweet-smelling aroma. The specific name for Lily of the Valley is majalis, or maialis, meaning that which belongs to May. Old astrological books place the plant under the planet Mercury, since Maia was the mother of Mercury. Health Notes This herb contains cardiac glycosides, which regulates and strengthens the heart while slowing and regulating the heart beat without exerting its coronary blood supply. With its strong diuretic properties, muget des bois reduces blood volume and lowers blood pressure to ease the irritable heart. It without doubt strengthens the brain and renovates a weak memory. The spirit of the flowers, distilled in wine, restoreth lost speech, helps the palsy, and is exceedingly good in apoplexy, comforteth the heart and vital spirits. How To Choose Water Garden Plants

By Brett Fogle So. The water garden bug has bitten. Youve dug and leveled and sweated and said words you hope that no one else has heard. Now its time for the fun part picking out your water garden plants! Plant varieties within these four categories are what you need to eyeball: deep-water, marginals, oxygenators, and floaters. (If you think these words are big and weird, just thank your stars were not talking medicine.) After youve diligently planted your babies in plastic tubs, pans, or clay pots, packing the fertilizer- and chemical-free soil down tightly, load the container down with pea gravel to keep the soil from floating away. (Dont ask why this works, but it does.) Plunk your prize into the water at the appropriate depth (Youll read about that in just a minute, so hang on to your hat.) and youre on your way! Plant-dunking should be done during the growing season. Wait four or five weeks for the water plants to do their thing before you add your fish. If you just cant hold your horses, er, your fish, for that long, you can jump the gun a couple of weeks, but the idea is to let the plants first get established. When picking your plants, youll no doubt be wowed by water lilies of the tropical persuasion. These aquatic wonders lord it over their hardier cousins with knock-out fragrance, big blooms day or night depending on the variety and a habit of blooming their little hearts out nearly every day during the growing season. They love their warmth, though, so unless you live in a year-round, warm-weather climate (in which case, you are used to being hated and has absolutely nothing to do with this article), be prepared to hasten them into a greenhouse or at least muster up enough moolah to buy them some grow lights to tough it out through the winter. They will definitely bite the dust at freezing temperatures, but give them night-time temps of at least 65F and daytime temps of 75F or warmer, and your love affair with tropicals will only grow that much more torrid. Hardy water lilies, while not the showboaters that tropicals are, are . . . well, hardier. Their big advantage is that they can stay in the water year round unless it freezes so deeply the rootstock is affected. And being the tough guys they are, you can plant these puppies deeper than the tropicals, some living it up in depths of 8 to 10 feet. Both hardy and tropical water lilies are real sun worshippers. At least 5 to 10 hours a day is what it takes, along with regular fertilization, to keep these plant pals happy. Everybody and their brother with a water garden wants a lotus plant. (Sisters, too, no doubt.) These water-lily relatives come in hardy and not-so-hardy strains, so make sure you know what youre buying. Much bigger than water lilies, lotus have huge, famously splendid blooms that not only will knock your socks off, but make you forget you have feet altogether. Their leaves and seed pods are so breathtaking, theyre a favorite in costly cut-flower arrangements. Big, bold, and beautiful, with water-depth needs of 2-3 feet, these shouters are really better off in big ponds that get plenty of sun. Marginals (sometimes called bog plants by those less high-falutin) are grass-like plants that strut their stuff in shallow areas no deeper than 6 that border the water garden. They also do well in mud. Cattail, bamboo, rush, papyrus, and many other plants fall into the family of marginals and grow best with a minimum of at least three hours of jolly old Sol. Some plants are there but not seen, working stoically under water and without fanfare to fight algae, oxygenate the water, and provide food for fish. (In lieu of these plants, if your pond is small, you can fake it fairly adequately with an aquarium pump.) Easy on the wallet, varieties of these plants can be bought in bunches and like their soil sandy and/or gravelly. Like hardy water lilies, they, too, will warrior it through the winter. Water hyacinths have become a recent rage, especially for the lazy among us. No soil is required for these beauties. Toss them in the water and theyre planted. A water hyacinth aint just another pretty face, though; these plants do their part in the war against algae and blanket weeds by keeping sunlight scarce on the waters surface. But one note of caution: This plant may take over the world if allowed. Its invasive as all get out, so keep it under control or you (and your neighbors) may wish youd never laid eyes on it. A water garden isn’t a garden without plants. Take your time, know your climate, and choose wisely. Your rewards will be great in return. ************************************************** Brett Fogle is the owner of MacArthur Water Gardens and several other pond-related websites including MacArthurWatergardens.com, and Pond-Filters-Online.com. Tanning Bed Options and Hints

By George Anderson Having tanned and nice looking skin is becoming more and more important in our society. We often have to use tanning beds in order to get our skin to the desired color. There are a few things that should be done to get the best tan, and the very first one is a good moisturizing lotion. Try to go for high quality moisturizers and tanning lotions not only do they provide a nicer and longer lasting tan but their actions on your skin are also more delicate. Tan extender lotions should also be in your bag when you are using a tanning bed. The main role of this lotion is to keep the tan intensity constant between exposures to the artificial light. Sometimes, if you are not using the moisturizer and extender, you might lose half of the potential tan. However, do not use the same outdoor tanning oils when you are tanning indoors. Because of the differences between natural sunlight and artificial tanning light, the outdoor oils might actually prevent you from getting a good and uniform tan. Being constant about your indoor tanning sessions is important, as skipping a few will put a hold on the process. Your tan develops in time and is a gradual process, and repeated exposure to ultra violet (UV) lights is the only way to keep it going. If you just skipped a session or two, chances are you can go back to your regular tanning schedule without any worries. If you took a longer break, make sure to consult with the manual of your tanning bed and see if you need to start over. You also need to be very careful when planning your initial tanning session, as one exposure time might be just fine for one skin type and disastrous for another. If you are a fair skinned person, try to find a program that will target pigmentation more precisely, without risking burns, of course. Getting to know your skin type is important there are 5 categories, starting from 1 (albino extremely white skin) and going all the way to 5, with highly pigmented skin. Consult your tanning bed manual for exposure times for each skin type, or ask the attendant at the sunning parlor to create a safe and efficient schedule for your particular skin type. Many people wish to eliminate trips to the tanning facility and get their own tanning bed. You may choose the vertical or horizontal tanners. The horizontal ones, also known as capsules, are the classic tanning beds and they are more relaxing than the vertical ones. However, vertical tanning beds do have some strong points, such as a better all-round tan and no pressure points that you get in horizontal tanning beds. Before purchasing the tanning bed you should check the space it requires to be installed and what the electrical specifications are. Models that use more tanning lamps will also eat a lot more electricity on the other hand they are the ones producing the fastest tan. Although the initial cost of the tanning bed will be higher, you might still consider this investment a good one, especially if you are a frequent tanner. George Anderson knows the right way to use both commercial and home tanning beds. How To Root Succulent Plants With Leaf or Stem Cuttings

By Laura Zinkan Succulents are perfect plants for dry gardens and are easy to root and grow. Once you learn how easy it is to propagate succulent plants, it’s a great way to expand your plant collection - and it’s free! You can use this planting technique with succulent plants from the Crassula family like Jade (C. ovata), Spoon Jade or Gollum Fingers (C. Portulacea, Rosary Plant (C. Rupestris), and Crassula tetragona. This propagation technique also works on other cactus and succulent plants like Aloe Vera, Echeveria, Aeonium and Baby Jade (Portulacaria afra). Planting Succulent Cuttings: Start with a cutting about 4 - 6 inches long. Bury about half the stalk in soil. This will give you deep roots and helps the plant withstand drought better. Trim off the last few leaves to make a bare stalk if you need to. The leaves can be planted too; bury about half the leaf, cut side down. Most succulent plants and shrubs will form roots on the joints in their stalks. Watering Succulent Plant Cuttings: Water every 2-3 days so the soil is moist (like a squeezed sponge). After a month, cut back to monthly watering. The leaves will probably shrivel a bit as the plant forms roots. The plant is living off the stored energy in its leaves. This is normal. You may also lose a few leaves, which is also normal. Do not use this as an excuse to over water! Save all your broken parts and leaves. When I am repotting, I always save all my bits and pieces. Tuck them into the soil and leave a little green sticking out. Most parts will take root and grow into an extra plant. How to Grow Succulent Plants: Succulent plants want heat and light. Outdoors most succulents take full sun to light shade. Some succulents will change colors in the sun and with the seasons. If you see brown, scabby spots, plants are getting too much sun. Aloe plants will turn orange in full sun. Most succulents and cacti make excellent houseplants. They are already accustomed to a warm, dry environment, but they do need bright light. Indoors, most succulent plants can take sun near a window, or bright light. As a general rule of thumb, if there is enough sunlight for you to read, there is probably enough sun to make your plant happy. Outdoors, Aloe and Haworthia like bright light, but take less sunlight than most succulents. One or two hours of direct sun is usually their limit. They will turn orange if they are getting too much sun. Moving them to more shade will change them back to green. A very light frost is usually no problem for succulent plants. A hard freeze, however, will freeze them solid. Outdoors, they can survive a frost if they have overhead protection. In freezing winter areas, bring you plants inside and put them in an area with lots of light. How to Water Succulent Plants and Cacti: Succulents are native to places like South Africa, South America and the arid Southwest. Try to keep that in mind when you are picking a spot for your plants. Succulents and cacti are equipped to store water in their leafs and stalks so that they can survive long periods of drought. Indoors, drench the pot and then allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Outdoors, water them a few times during the hottest days of summer (if they look shriveled), otherwise, leave them alone. The fastest way to kill succulents is to over water them. Soil Requirements for Succulents and Cacti: Succulent plants in a pot: The preferred soil for succulents is light and fast draining. Some retailers carry a special cactus potting soil, which is ideal. However, regular potting soil can also be used. Just remember that regular potting soil is formulated to retain water, so be sure to let it dry between watering (after your plants are established.) Do not use the potting soil with added fertilizer as it can be too ‘rich’ for succulents. If available, add a scoop of sharp sand or fine gravel to assist with drainage. Succulent Plant Cuttings Outdoors: Generally you can put your succulent plant cutting directly in the soil in the exact spot where you want the plant to grow. Just break up the soil, (add a little potting soil if you must), and plant your cutting. If the area is in full sun, your plant cutting will have an easier time rooting and getting established if you give it a little shade for a couple weeks or so. You can use a shade cloth, a piece of cardboard or anything else that keeps the sun off your cutting for a few hours during the day. If you are rooting a succulent cutting in a pot but plan on planting it in your garden, I recommend using mainly soil from your own garden in the pot. You can add a scoop of potting soil if you wish, but the best thing is to get your cutting used to your native soil off the bat. Your plant will have a better transition from pot to garden soil when you plant it. Please www.theGardenPages.com to see photos of succulents that are easily propagated with cuttings. Control Damaging Power of Depression

By Anandrahi JS Bouts of depression is a common phenomenon. Even very happy persons and great saints have to pass through the tides of depression. Static state of anything thing or emotion can be very boring in life. If there is no night how can you enjoy the day? If there is no sorrow in life how can you enjoy fun? So these things are as interrelated as hope and depression. Depression becomes a problem when the period of depression is so long that it starts damaging us physically and mentally. Therefore it is necessary to learn to ride over depression successfully. If an innocent person is kept in the prison for long he may become emotionally shattered. But if he learns to live there he may be able to come out in a very healthy and enlightened state even after ten or twenty years. See the example of Nelson Mandella and scores of others prisoners who spent the golden years of their life in jail but nothing could break them. In the similar way depression can never break you if you learn to manage it well. 1. TRAKE VIGOROUS EXERCISE Whenever you are depressed you must make yourself physically active to use the excess energy of your mind. Feeling of depression releases a negative energy in your mind that weakens your enthusiasm and hope regarding life and work. It also weakens the immune system of your body making it a breeding ground of many diseases. This energy can best be used by some vigorous physical exercise. Do the exercise you like. You may play music or your favourite songs along with it. 2. WANDER WITHOUT AIM Another way to use the negative energy and divert your mind is to wander aimlessly any where. Sit in any local bus or train and go to any direction. Roam in the markets. Sit in any restaurant and eat or drink anything you want. Dont return to home till you are absolutely tired. Be sure that your wallet contains some money. 3. EXPRESS TO A CLOSE FRIEND Discuss your problems to a close friend. Whatever is there in your heart try to bring it out. Sharing a problem to a close friend loses the intensity of negative force. Good friends are able to bring you out of depression. They understand your psychology and your problems. They may come up with some good ideas to help you face your depression in a positive way. 4. TRY TO WRITE RUBBISH Switch on your computer, create a personal file with a password and start writing your feelings. Express the actual feeling, dont hide anything. With a friend you have to be cautious sometimes so that you dont annoy him even unintentionally. But you can pour out your whole heart to the computer and it will never get angry or tired. When you are able to shed away some of your repressed feelings you will feel somewhat relieved. 5. BEGINNING OF A NEW IDEA Never think that every wave of depression is harmful. Sometimes it is the beginning of a big idea or creation. Your mind is busy in finding or creating something new and marvellous. When that period passes the depression starts melting. Your mind starts creating something fantastic which brings new zest and hope. So have confidence that something much better will happen after the tide of depression. Is Your Closet Killing Your Look

By Lakeysha Green A well organized closet is an excellent foundation for creating impeccable looks for any occasion. Shirts dangling from hangers, shoes cluttering the floor, and jackets bunched together in a closet are perfect if your style is desperately sifting through clothes in the morning and tossing on whatever you can find after giving it a good shake. But if its peace and solace you are after, here are a few basic tips to assist you in creating a wardrobe that will save you time, energy, and keep you looking your best. To create the end result (a well organized closet) it is imperative to start from scratch, so ensure you set aside time to clear the closet of all its contents. Dust off the shelves, and vacuum the floor to clear the closet of any debris. Now its time to organize! Did you ever notice how much time is saved while shopping when you select a blouse you love, and right next to it is a coordinating pencil skirt? Grouping outfits together in the closet will eliminate the hassle of searching for the right garment to pair with another, particularly on mornings when time is scarce. For example, if you have a shirt that looks great with a certain pair of trousers and blazer, group them together. Once the first outfit is complete, put together another outfit and so on. Any left over items should be grouped by garment type (e.g. pants, skirts) then by color for easy reference. Shoes should be stored on a shoe rack/hanger, or in shoes boxes that are either clear, or have a photo on the front of the box for easy identification. Sweaters can be folded and organized on shelves by color. Generally outerwear is the most bulky of items stored the closet. These garments should be grouped together by length, then color at the end of the rail. Accessories All belts should be hung together for quick reference. This can be done by purchasing hooks, using nails, or securing them on a strong hanger. Loose items such as wraps and scarves should be placed on hangers, secured by a clamp, clothes pins, or draped from a hook. Hats are best stored in boxes and placed on shelves. All out of season items can easily be stored in clear, plastic under the bed storage bins. This will help to eliminate excess clutter in the closet. Final Touch: Place a sachet in your closet for a light fragrance thats fresh and inviting. Following the above steps will assist you in creating a wardrobe thats organized and time efficient. It will also help you to visually distinguish between what you need for future purchases, and what you dont. Try it out and see how much easier putting together great looks can be! Mortgage Broker Training Article: What Do You Think?

By Chad Weber Mortgage brokers, I have a fun test for you. This test will give you an idea of your ability to think through situations. Believe it or not, no matter how fun it is to answer these questions, this exercise is still relevant to generating realtor business. Are you ready for this? Here we go: Question #1 There are 6 eggs in a basket. 6 people each take 1 egg. How can it be that 1 egg is left in the basket? Question #2 Acting on an anonymous phone call, police raid a house to arrest a suspected murderer. They dont know what he looks like, but they do know that his name is John. Inside, they find a carpenter, a cab driver, a mechanic and fireman playing cards. Without asking his name, they arrest the fireman on the spot. How did they know they had their man? Question #3 A man escaped from prison and is making his way home on foot. After walking about 2 miles from the prison on a rural country road, he notices a police car coming towards him. Despite knowing that all squads will be looking for him, he ran towards the car. Only when he was about 10 feet away did he turn and run into the woods. Why did he run towards the police car? You will find the answers to these questions at the end of this article. So what is the point of presenting you with these questions? The above scenarios were designed to test an individuals lateral thinking ability. What exactly is lateral thinking? Lateral thinking is approaching a problem from diverse angles instead of focusing on one approach at length. All of the above questions had relatively simple answers to them, but when presented in the context that they were, the scenarios can seem confusing. I used these scenarios to demonstrate the way we as mortgage brokers approach our own business and the gaps in training that can daunt the “Average Joe” mortgage broker . Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where there seems to be no easy answer. In fact, many mortgage brokers are feeling downright confused about what to do in todays market condition. Many originators look at their options, and they find 1 or 2 recommended solutions that may or may not work as advertised. What happens when the marketing approach doesnt bring in the desired results? They give up! Why resign yourself to mediocre results or to a less than fulfilling career when there are so many solutions still out there for mortgage brokers with even an ounce of self-confidence? By using our own brainpower and the mountain of information available to us, there are simple solutions available at our finger-tips just waiting for us to implement. The problem is that a fine balance needs to be struck between creative lateral thinking while adhering to sound and proven business truths. Try approaching your challenges from a different angle. Apply critical and lateral thinking to the hurdles that you face to find solutions where previously there seemed to be none. As long as originators continue to implement the same strategies and approaches that everyone else is using, they will continue to get the same results they always have. Its amazing what a little brain power and creative thinking can accomplish. Take a look at the answers to the questions above to find out what the answers were. I think youll be amazed at how simple the solutions were. Yet due to our own limited view of situations and the world around us, many times we create our own mental prison. Free the creativity within yourself, and apply these principals to some of your most pressing challenges. I think you just may surprise yourself.
