Power Kiting the First Steps

By James Roberts OK so you have bought yourself a 3 meter kite and a buggy and youre itching to get out on the beach and ride the wind. Stop there.leave the buggy at home and buy a 2 meter kite! Although its tempting to go out and do it its not pleasant finding yourself dragged sideways a long a beach by a kite with the power of a 250cc outboard motor or even worse lifted into the air to be then smashed heavily down onto the beach smashing both yourself and the buggy in the process. When starting out you have to learn how to use the kite. Thats where a 2 meter kite is useful. Even a child can control one in light winds and when the wind gets up it will drag a 200 lb adult along. The basic method of starting off is to lay the kite on the ground and walk backwards into the wind extending the lines. Once fully extended with kite full of wind you give a tug and the kite takes off..and probably so do you. A safer initial approach: When you have your kite down on the beach the first thing is to LEAVE IT IN THE BAG. In any sort of wind as soon as the kite is out youre fighting with it. Ask someone to accompany you on your first few flights. Get them to hold the kite within the bag while you extend the lines ACROSS the wind. At 90 degrees to the wind the point of lowest power you will have much more control of the kite once it starts flying. Check all lines are clear and ask your helper to remove the kite from the bag. Even at 90 degrees to the wind the kite will find the wind and inflate. If your using a four line kite the kite actually flies on the top two lines. The bottom two are brake line basically when the kite is in the air if you want to de power the kite or drop it you gently haul back on the bottom lines and the kite stalls and drops. When your ready ask your helper to release the kite and making sure that the brake lines are slack fly the kite at 45 degrees across the wind until it is directly above you. In that the position the kite will have maximum lift and almost zero traction. Get a feel for the kite. Pull gently n the brake lines and watch how the kite starts to drop. Ok lets move the kite: Pull gently back on the left hand top line. The kite will start to move to the left. Pull back on the right line the kite moves back to the zenith. Try going right. OK lets land the kite. Fly the kite slowly at 45 degrees to the location of your helper and as you approach pull back on the brake lines. The kite will settle down to the ground. Congratulations you can handle a power kite! Next step a 3 meter kite ..then a 5 then. Hollywood Weight Loss Secrets - Five Things to Avoid!

By Greg Ryan As an employee of famous fitness star Kathy Smith, personal trainer of many movie stars, and best selling author, it came to my attention of a few things that prevented Hollywood types from losing the weight they wanted. Here they are; Exercise Resistance or ER means a conscious or unconscious block against participating in a regular active program. Studies show that some people have barriers built up from past experiences that give them a negative mindset toward exercise and food. In many cases, this prevents a person from starting or following through on an exercise program. RESENTMENT I thought the golden years were supposed to be filled with relaxing things to do, not more activities I usually put off before? Not wanting to exercise is one thing, but resenting exercising can be paralyzing. There are only a small percentage of people that truly like to exercise. And most do it for a sport or profession. Thats usually not true for the average person. Building up resentment toward exercise goes much deeper than just not liking the effort it takes to do it. Resentment brings out a rebellious attitude in us. It is down right maddening that our bodies are aging and we can not do what we used to do! Every say or think that? We feel it and we see it happening right in front of our eyes. Inside, we are like children. We stomp our feet, cross our arms and say, You cant tell me what to do; Ill show you. The sooner you accept the fact that exercise is going to have to be a part of the rest of your life, the more likely you will start the more likely you will continue exercising. Resentment is usually fueled by his cousins: Denial, Pride and Laziness. The best thing to do is never let them play together. Resentment is a form of pride. FAILURE Why should I start exercising? I will not follow throughnever have. It will be just another failure of mine. The only failure is not starting. Success is not measured in numbers. It is measured in your growth through the process. Just because your track record may show some ups and downs has no bearing on your future efforts. Plus, your self-worth is not based on how many times you started an exercise program. Fear of failure is an excuse to never try. PERFECTION Why am I not doing this the way I know I can do this? I might as well not do it at all if I cannot do it right. If you think for one second that you are going to be perfect in sticking to a plan, forget it. Its not possible for anyone. The truth is you will never be perfect. Once you reach a goal, you will have another one. Its a repetitive cycle, like running on a treadmill that will never stop. Perfectionism is an illusion. COMPARISONS Why does Jane look like she does and I have to work so hard at it. It does not seem fair! Life just isnt fair, is it? For some, it seems effortless to look thin and feel healthy. These people may even do the exact workout plan as you and get totally different results than you do. For you, it is a constant trip to the dentists office. You dread it. You know its going to hurt, and it may even cost a lot in the end. You are right that its not fair, but thats life. You need to get beyond this. Comparing yourself to others and your past is a losing battle. EXPECTATIONS Why is it so hard to balance my fitness goals and lifestyle? Unless you have such paralyzing health problems that you cant move, there is NO reason in the world not to get some form of exercise. However, you have to be smart about it and you have to be realistic in what you choose to do. If your expectations are too high, you set yourself up for failure and then begin comparing yourself to others. In some cases, ER sets in before you even start. This is hurtful. Setting expectations that are too high is self-defeating before you even start. Here is what I told them and I will tell you the same - One out of three of you will break a bone. Half of you are on the verge of obesity and diabetes. A third of you will suffer a heart attack. Half of you will end up in a nursing home. And most of you are not living a life filled with confidence, good sleeping patterns, high energy or happiness. Why now? You tell mewhy not now? Do the math! Numbers do not lie. You either accept the road less traveled or you face the consequences. Its just that simple. This may resemble a scare tactic, but the bottom line is this is your reality. If you think for one second you are exempt, above reproach, or just relying on luck or faith, think again. Your best defense is a good offense. Why now? Resenting the need to exercise is a waste of energy. Never starting because you are afraid of failure is a copout. Striving to exercise perfectly is a bit unrealistic for anyone. Comparing your present condition with how you used to be is a losing battle. And setting expectations so high that your lifestyle prevents you from accomplishing anything is a bad attitude ready to happen. Why now? Because these are all just plain excuses. The bottom line is, you will pay the doctor eventually if you allow any of the excuses to get the best of you. Exercising and eating right is the best thing you can do for your mind, body, and your heart. It will take work, but the benefits are priceless. START LOSING WEIGHT THE RIGHT WAY FOR GOOD TODAY! Boot Camp 1958

By Hubert Crowell After enlisting in the Army May 26, 1958 in Portland Oregon, they wasted no time, I had to report for duty the following week and boarded a train for California. Fort Ord, located on scenic Hwy. 1 about five miles north of Monterey, was once home to 25,000 soldiers and civilian workers. Founded as a cavalry post in 1917, it became a major training post during World War II. Most recently, Fort Ord was home to the 7th Infantry Div., which inactivated in 1993. We were issued our military clothing, giving shots and saw little of the sights, I just recently figured out where Fort Ord is and how close I was to the Pacific ocean and did not even see it! I lost track of my personal belongs in the rush to leave Portland and the thing that I missed the most was an Indian pipe that my grandfather gave me. I should not have taken it with me when I ran away from home. It was a carving of two deer stepping over a log, one of the antlers was broken but otherwise it was perfect. It even had a silk lined leather case. The pipe was white and was carved from bone or made of clay. My grandfather Clark, said that an Indian passing through western Kentucky gave it to him. I sure would like to have known the story behind that gift. After a couple of weeks at Fort Ord, we were placed on a train and shipped to Fort Hood, Texas. The first day on the train while we were still in California, the train put on the emergency brakes and came to a stop. Our car was just over the railroad crossing where a woman had jumped in front of the train. I remember thinking that I hoped that this was not a sign of things to come. I felt safe in entering the army at this time, the Korean war had just ended with troops still at high alert on each side and occasional shots beings fired at each other. Most of us thought that we would end up in Korea before it was over. We had not heard about Vietnam and it was not until years later that I discovered that we had advisors there before I was discharged. This qualified me as a war veteran and a free life long drivers’ licence from the state of Georgia. After a couple of days on the train we arrived at Killeen, Texas for basic training at Fort Hood. My earliest memory at age four is of going the latrine with Dad at a base in Texas during WWII. Dad was drafted in 1944 and sent to Europe just in time for the Battle of the Bulge. I believe that he received his basic training also at Fort Hood. Fort Hood was hot, dry and very few trees. They feed us a lot of salt tablets and we sweat salt until out clothes were white. I gave it my all during the first PT test and almost passed out. I believe at the time that they collected the youngest recruits and sent them all to the same camp at the same time. I believe that we were all sixteen or seventeen at the most. A few of the recruits confessed their true age and got out of the army to be sent home. I stuck it out and wondered if they would discovered how old I really was. During advance training I had to be cleared for confidential material and I was sure that the investigation would give me away. If it did, they did not say anything. I remember one night after a long day on the training field, hiking back to the barracks and fell asleep while marching. I marched right off the road and into a ditch! I was still young and had not yet learned to do everything I was told. So I got more than my share of extra details. I recall one time that the Sargent had me digging a fox hole under the HQ building. Why there I will never know, it was low and sort of like shoveling coal in the mines. Another time two of us hid in the attic of the barracks to avoid marching that day. We did not get caught but that may have been the cause of having to dig the holes. I will never forget that first hand grenade we had to throw. I recently saw on the news that when your adrenaline gets high that you remember the moment forever. All that I could think of was that I was going to drop the grenade into the hole or would not be able to throw it far enough. You think that you will be OK until they hand you that heavy grenade and tell you to pull the pin! The gas chamber was another experience I will never forget, my eyes watered so much that I could not see, but I did not get sick. And then there was the crawling under the live machine gun fire. I sure was glad to see those six weeks end. At the time I did not know that Elvis Presley was training also at Fort Hood and had bought a house in Killeen, Texas. Elvis was stationed at Fort Hood for six months of training and followed us to Germany in late September 1958. At the end of Basic Training, we got some time off to visit our families and I returned to Providence, Kentucky. Mother forgave me for lying about my age, but not for running away from home. I returned to Fort Hood for eight weeks of advance training and was assigned to the Artillery. I am not sure how I made it with less than a ninth grade education, but I was assigned to fire direction control based on my high scores on the entrance test. We had lots of class room training before going out on the firing range with the 105mm self-propelled howitzers. When I enlisted, I was assured that the army would provide me with a high school education. I later found out that meant taking a GED test and then providing classes on the subjects that were not passed. The GED test was so general in nature that I passed all the subjects and therefore no schooling was required. Passes were hard to get, so I did go under the fence once for a night on the town, and the group that I went with were wild and talking about staying awol. I had second thoughts and returned alone the same way I left, under the fence. I never tried that again. I recalled when we were ready to ship out, they gathered us all into the main theater for a pep talk. It was just like in the movie Paton. And then we got our orders for Germany, as I had enlisted for three years, I would spend two years on assignment in Germany. About half of the replacements going to the 73 Artillery were draftees and the other half were from our group of young volunteers. The draftees only had to spent eighteen months on assignment and would leave early. Elvis left Germany before I did even though he arrived after I did. We boarded a train for New York, with no stop overs and the train rolled right through New York City and stopped at the docks. It was in the middle of the night so I saw nothing of the city. Early the next morning I was assigned KP duty and had to remain below, even missing the view as we sailed. I pulled KP duty every other day for the 20 some days at sea before landing at Bremerhaven, Germany. Detoxification and Your Health: The Bodies 7 Channels of Elimination!

By Charles O. Palmerson If you want to be healthy you need to understand the seven systems that the body uses to eliminate waste and toxic matters. When these systems are working effectively the result is good health. When they are compromised all types of complications can result. If you want to understand detoxification you need to have a clear understanding of the bodies channels of elimination. When the body confronts a toxin or foreign substance it uses these channels of elimination to purge the toxin as quickly as possible. They key to excellent health is knowing these 7 channels of elimination like the back of your hand and doing everything possible to keep them functioning optimally. In 1904 a Russian Naturopathic Physician by the name of Eli Metchnikof discovered that the body would recycle any toxin that it was not capable of purging. In the recycling process the body would utilize all 7 channels of elimination to try and get the toxic substance removed from the body. This is important to understand because if your health has been compromised it would stand to reason that one or more of the bodies channels of elimination are not working effectively. Most people cannot even name the bodies seven channels of elimination. If you value your health do everything you can to understand these seven vital cleannsing systems. Liver - The Liver is the bodies factory. It metabolizes food, filters toxins and converts ingredients into substances that are needed in all parts of the body. Your liver is one of the largest and most important organs in your body. The Liver when healthy will store vitamins, sugars, fats and other nutrients from the food that you eat. The Liver builds chemicals that your body needs to stay healthy and breaks down harmful substances, like alcohol and other toxic (poisonous) chemicals. It also removes waste products from your blood and makes sure that your body has just the right amount of other chemicals that it needs. Learn about the Liver by picking up a basic book on health and supplement accordingly. Lungs - Your LUNGS rae in charge of breathing so you better take care of them. The best way to take care of the lungs is to give them lots of exercise. The best way to keep your lungs healthy is not to smoke. Smoking isn’t good for any part of your body, and your lungs especially hate it. Deep breathing of fresh air is the best exercise for the LUNGS. Spend 15 minutes each day doing deep breathing exercises. Lymphatic System - Regular exercise is the best treatment that your lymphatic system can receive. The Lymphatic is the bodies filter system which supports immune function. A healthy lymphatic system filters out bacteria and other foreign particles. A natural herb by the name of arabanogalactan is a natural cleanser of the lymphatic system. Blood - The blood is a liquid organ which transfers and transports substances throughout the body. It is what delivers the needed nutrition to those areas that are in need. Red Clover and Chlorella are wonderful natural cleansers of the blood system. A regular exercise routine stimulates the blood system and assists the body in eliminating waste. Skin - The Skin is the bodies largest organ. By sweating naturally you assist in cleansing the skin and keeping it elastic and healthy. Going to a Sauna and sweating is a wonderful health regimen for the skin. Colon - The colon is vital to effective health because it serves the function of transporting waste out of the body. Hydration of the digestion system will improve Colon Health. This can be done by drinking an equivalent number of ounces of water to your body weight every day. Also, hydrating the colon through Colon Hydrotherapy has proven to be very beneficial to re-etablishing health. Kidneys - Your chances of developing a kidney stone in your lifetime are 1 in 10? In 1995, more than 3 million people in the United States had some type of kidney condition such as an infection, kidney stones or cancer. More than 300,000 people suffer from renal failure each year and undergo dialysis or await a kidney transplant. The kidneys produce urine which is the waste in the body. Often kidney problems are the result of dehydration. A natural supplement that cleanses and provides needed nutrition for the kidneys is Corn Silk. If you want to understand good health you ned to understand these seven channels of elimnation. I urge you to understand these seven channels of elimination and do everything possible to assist them in your pursuit of excellent health. Charles O. The Glycemic Index is Your Key to Weight Control

By Simon Evans How is our society doing today? Lets look at some facts. Today, two out of three adults in the United States and a staggering number of children are overweight. It is expected that, if current trends continue, 1 out of 3 children born today will develop type II diabetes. The rates of heart disease, stroke, depression, diabetes and many other chronic degenerative illnesses are rising. In fact, 1 out of 5 high school age children already have the beginning stages of cardiovascular disease in their arteries! I could go on for pages with these depressing statistics but hopefully I have made the point We are not healthy. Why is this the case? Thats really not a very difficult question to answer: too much low quality food and not enough physical activity. There have been thousands of studies to support this conclusion. Dont believe what you read in the media headlines about the latest ground breaking diet pills or wonder drugs. There arent any truly legitimate fast fixes. If you want to regain your health and stay healthy its going to take some work. But you can start with small steps by changing a couple of simple things on a daily basis. Before long youll be amazed at how much better you feel. Lets take a look at what we can do with our diets. Why are we so fat? Again, the answer to this question is somewhat obvious. We eat too much of the wrong kinds of food. Let me talk about something called the glycemic index. This is a measure of how fast a food burns in your body and how fast it spikes your blood sugar after you eat. A high glycemic food burns fast and raises you blood sugar quickly and a low glycemic food burns slow and raises your blood sugar slowly. High glycemic foods are full of simple sugars, like high-fructose corn syrup and low glycemic foods have more fiber and complex sugars like those you get from whole grains and vegetables. Why is this important? This is really your key to weight control. Your body needs to maintain your blood sugar in a very tight window. If you are always eating high glycemic foods then your blood sugar goes up fast and your body needs to take drastic measures to bring it down by spiking your insulin levels, a hormone that decreases blood sugar. This has the effect of crashing your blood sugar back down and this makes you feel very tired after you eat. It also makes you feel hungry again too soon because your blood sugar falls below normal and you crave something sweet to bring it up again repeating the whole cycle. If you do this for many years, eventually your body stops reacting to its own insulin and you become pre-diabetic and have trouble maintaining your weight. If you pay attention to the glycemic index and eat foods that burn slowly you will have steady energy levels throughout the day, not get hungry as often, and not send yourself down the path toward diabetes. If you already have diabetes, then you probably know that low glycemic foods can help you maintain your blood sugar levels within the appropriate range. This is an extremely important concept in managing your weight. Forget all the crazy diets that dont work, just pay attention to this and youll find yourself losing weight naturally. Wishing you Good Health. Simon J. Perfect Diet

By Noel Whaam Diets are tempting to make for on, and there are multifarious that enter out each year and many people get it. Nonetheless I notice in the endorse of their mind that they know that the diet wont work because they have been on so multifarious sooner. Since the 1950s, the Leagued States government has been working to put the perfect nutritional program for optimal strength. They further invested in numerous of studies for health and nutrition and we all know that these theories on soundness rise and fall endorse and forth. This method is known as the food pyramid. Well, the thing is citizens acquire to hear to their own body to determine what they need at times, and how much. Notwithstanding what I headquarters on is a fixed way of eating, not temporary regimes. Some diets may work temporary, you may misplace a buckle of pounds, but that all you will lose, and sooner or later you will collect the whole of each that weight back and possibly more! The reason why diets dont office is because its not biologically effective to fit into your body. What? This means that all diets are depriving you of one of the molecules that your body needs to live on. The molecules of life are organic compounds. Organic compounds contain carbon and at least one hydrogen atom. Quick organism consists generally of carbon oxygen, and hydrogen. We get most of our oxygen and hydrogen in the form of water. Thats why its essential for you to drink adequacy water. I notice many people will ask the standard controversy, how plenteous water should I drink? Well that all depends on many factors. Its evident that a 50 foot lass volition declaration require less water than a 60 male because of the size dissimilarity. Nonetheless, the strategy that I went over, especially when I was participating in sports is to drink enough water until your urine is crystal clear. If your urine is yellow, that is a acceptable meter to quaff more water. So, diets dont work is simply its depriving. Your diet should never happen depriving; it should confer you a compensate for of essential nutrients. 7 Steps You Must Follow When Caught in a Job Loss Crisis

By Cathy Goodwin Many people believe that job losses are like earthquakes and computer meltdowns. It’s not “if” the Big One is coming. It’s when. Most of us don’t anticipate these crises and even the smartest professionals can be caught unprepared and off guard. Sometimes you decide it’s time for a change. More often, your career crisis comes from your environment: job loss, restructuring, bizarre performance review, transfer, offer for a new job arriving out of the blue. As with any crisis, the first few minutes are most important. When someone has a heart attack, they need medical attention within minutes. When your car has a flat tire, you have to get off the road safely. But what’s most important when you have a career crisis? Most of my clients are surprised at their own reactions. They hated the job. They really wanted this offer. But now that it’s here, what’s the next step? Here are some steps that can guide you to safety and begin the process of transforming career breakdown to career breakthrough. 1. Discuss your resources with a qualified financial advisor. Most people begin by asking, “Will I go broke?” Dealing with your fears and getting a reality check should be your very first step. Can you stretch your funds beyond six months? Equity loan? Brokerage margin loan? Short-term jobs? Do not settle for amateur advice from a friend, neighbor or family member. Go to the experts. 2. Deal with the emotional side before you begin to rebuild your business or career. Many people grieve lost careers, houses and cities — even those they hated the most. Clients often can’t deal with career challenges till they’ve relieved the emotional pressures. Most need more than a friendly bartender and a kind family member. 3. Go slow! Clients with a history of success want to move full speed ahead. They’re eager to take action and get on with their lives. But now’s the time to stop and take stock. Nearly everyone hits a panic button that ends up costing time and money. Should you sell the house and move a tent in Wyoming? Should you sign up for a resume-blasting service? Join a program that costs in the middle five figures? Probably not, never and maybe later…but for now, take small steps. Think of dipping a toe into the water before plunging into the deep end. 4. Explore free or low-cost career resources. Check out the Chamber of Commerce, your alumni career center, SCORE, and the unemployment office. If you have trouble staying focused or making a plan, paying your own career coach may be a good investment. 5. Do something fun at least once a day. For some reason, this advice is hardest for my clients to accept. Take the dog to the park, eat an ice cream sundae, visit a museum. Malls and television are (usually) distracting but not satisfying. Caution: If “fun” has gone from your life and your vocabulary see #2 — right away. 6. Get physical. Walk, run, work out, play a sport every day. Exercise creates energy and keeps you healthy. I’ve gotten my best ideas while working out in the gym or walking the dog, often when I’m least in the mood to leave the house. 7. Get creative. Write, paint, take a ceramics or poetry class. Creativity will be essential to your crisis transformation. You’ll need out-of-the-box ideas when you plan your next step. Get the juices flowing. Creativity can also help jump-start your intuition - your best crisis management resource. See http://www.cathygoodwin.com/intuitionbook.html Bonus tip: Above all, keep a journal. Life will look very different a year from now and you will be amazed how far you have come and how much you have learned.
